This Week in Rap – Current Events Just Got A Lot More Interesting

14 03 2010

Skimming through a blog I subscribe to, Free Technology for Teachers, I watched this video called “The Week in Rap”.  Every week, the artists compile a summary of the week’s news events in the form of a rap video.  At first I wondered if there was a Canadian example…then I realized that if there isn’t, one of the best ways to find a Canadian example would be to have students make one!  Current events could become memorable, interesting, and exciting in a classroom by having students (probably in groups) create a rap video about the week (or month).  Younger students would love the rhyme but would need more help, and older students could probably get a lot more creative, exploring synonyms and connecting news events to music.

The video is on vimeo: http://vimeo.com/10105480
